While I mostly agree I could imagine it has some evolutionary purpose. Predators like lions are probably at least a little sadistic I would assume.
I think they simply are incapable of giving a single fuck about what the their meal feels or think
Cats play with their prey though.
Yeah they toy with other mamal, they don't just hunt for food

I think they systematically kill all intruders when they can that's all, for hygiene
And it happens to enjoy them even old, that's also why they are good at it
But they don't spit like when they are super pissed, aggressive, hateful
