Diagoras from Melos was the first known atheist philosopher. He was quite a funny guy. When the ship he was traveling on ended up in a storm, the sailors claimed that the storm was sent by gods to punish him for his atheism. He simply replied that he was not on other ships that sunk because of storms. He also got a dead or alive bounty on him because he crashed the statue of Hercules and used it to cook, saying that it was the last of Hercules tasks.
