One thing most people don't realize is that hospitals are a locally protected monopoly. Local officials must ALLOW a new hospital to be built and if the existing one says it will take too much of their business away and weakened their ability to provide emergency support then they won't allow the competition. This is why hospitals can charge wahtever they want and better competition isn't built. That hospital approval thing is called something specific but I can't remember what.
