Cats can get it and so can dogs. Cats are the big problem though, you can put your dog on a leash and make sure that they have little to no interaction with other dogs but cats hang out with other cats all night long (and pass it back and forth). This isn't about fear -mongering, this is a real issue and a rather disturbing vector for this virus; it crosses species barriers like nothing that has ever come before it... but really, it's just naturally occurring.
