Check out the individual build videos where each part/assembly is made and fitted in detail. There are other projects too so check out some chill videos of a mechanical master at work.

There is a good reason for his long delays on the project. He ran into some unknowns on his build and spent a solid year doing research and collaborating with scholars of the mechanism to resolve the issues. His work in this area led to some updated information on the mechanism and is now part of the few people alive who know as much about it as he does. The most recent video on the mechanism explains this. Check it out to see what he contributed to the knowledge of the mechanism.

Holy shit, he made his own screws!

That was always one of my favorite aspects of Chris' work. He even makes his own tools to make the custom parts. He is truly a patient and meticulous craftsman. I highly recommend watching the individual build videos as they will show you just much work goes into these parts and tools. They're highly therapeutic and educational.

The finished product was fantastic. I made a grandfather clock in High School and have maintained the movement over the years, but , hell I am a stumbling Neanderthal compared to that "amateur" machinist.

Pro tip, play it at 2x speed to not waste so much of your time.

1000 hours --> 12 mins. Still too long.

I...I don't know what to say.

Actually, its a pretty good tip for most videos. You can safely play most content at 150% speed to get through it faster while not losing much information from the video.

I tend to do it a lot on technical videos where I swear to fucking god they talk like they are explaining shit to African nigger children.

I like to watch at normal, human speed to fully enjoy the production as well as the content. I'm not in a rush and I want to appreciate the work that goes into the content creation. No need for me to condense life down any further than it already is. I'll stick with 1x playback.

You mean it’s possible to make clocks that don’t look like suitcase bombs?

[–] 1 pt

Well the maker is a White man so he is more than capable of making a clock that doesn't look like it will explode when someone yells aloha snackbar.

You know me, I'm all for expensive time-consuming hobbies for the sake of having hobbies... but I sure hope this guy made some money off of that. It's a masterpiece and he deserves some compensation for his time that youtube wont give him.

IIRC, he gave it away to a subscriber at the completion of the project. I suspect Chris doesn't need the money as he does seem to be well off or at least very comfortable. And speaking of expensive and time consuming hobbies, I wonder what he could do if he set his sites on making a fancy equatorial mount. He's making an Antikythera Mechanism replica so a EQ mount would be a walk in the park for him I'm sure.

Yeah, these mounts are relatively simple all things considered. But I pay the lazy tax because I don't want to make my own just to have to troubleshoot all of the issues that arise from my general lack of precision when using CAD. I think most of the software is proprietary too.

Edit: My current mount isn't technically equatorial though. Its a bit different than normal. https://www.ioptron.com/product-p/7200.htm

I read it wrong and thought he made a really fast clock that counts 1000 hours in 12 min.

There are lots of YouTubers who would do exactly that kind of project so it's probably not far fetched an idea at all.
