The algorithm for the AI taking charge of Rose's recovery required repetition to queue in on where and how the memories were being lost. The dementia could be reversed so long as the AI could perform a close analyses of a repeated loss of the same memory. Through repetition, the AI could hone in specific brain functionalities which lead to Rose's mental decline.

Mark tossed and turned every night, angry that the world he knew before the AI was dead and had been replaced by one of super-sourced algorithms and informational decadence. Nothing makes sense or is to be believed in the same way. Every image appearing on a screen tailored to the individual watching, every payment made relative to income, every online interaction was suspect. Entertainement was lonely, the economy was one of one, and socializing was uninspired, but alas, these codes were simply an itiration of reality. The new reality.

Were it not for the AI, Rose would never recover, but the brain is an algorithm, highly complex and perfectly entwined with the body, but an algorithmic system nonetheless, much like our AI. So it is what it is, and we are also what it is, but at least we are not niggers.
