My big goal this year is to prepare the house for NativeJR. Which is going to be pretty ambitious as MRS. Native wants to put in completely new floors which is going to be a massive job.

I also want to get about 50 quail, so will need to build them a completely new pen and set up fortunately that shouldn’t be too difficult I don’t think.

I would also like to grow bunnies and that will be a lot of work because you have to make several pens to separate the men and the women and the babies since rabbits are pretty violet and will kill the babies if you aren’t careful.

I’m hoping for a great harvest on garlic (which I already planted) and hoping my three rhubarb plants will take off this year.

Basically home renovations is the big thing. I cut down my booze a lot and it’s basically just once a month now and I’m hoping to cut it back to just special events this coming year.

I also want to focus on cutting down my debt, it jumped up quite a bit and my household is now just a one income family so we have to be more careful with money. Though if the rabbits and quail take off this year, that should really save a lot of money on meat.

The food isn’t that expensive for them. Tell you what though, gardening is $$$ buying good soil is NOT cheap.

Finish fencing

I did a little fencing for my Quail hutch and damn is that hard work! A very under-rated work out routine.

Water and oven to work

Get a small gas generator and run extension cords to it in a pinch. That’s what people do in my area. Alternatively you could set up a couple of batteries, keep them charged up and wire a harness to them so you can plug in the water/stove when the power goes out.

Alternatively, buy a propane oven instead of electric and you won’t have to worry about the power going out.

We have a propane oven, but it doesn't function if there is no electricity. I've never had propane before so it was very surprising.

A gas generator works short term but I was really hoping for long term solutions in case electricity is out and gas is unavailable.

The oven part won’t function without electricity however, the burners will which is what really matters. Unless you have some brand new oven that has an electronic burner switch that prevents it from opening when you turn the knob. Which I can imagine for whatever reason has been designed already because people are too stupid.

As for long term solutions yes, you’ll have to think of something else so again, depending on where you live and in the winter time solar doesn’t really work.

Always better to have an alternative and you are spot on for thinking ahead

Ya it's blocked from functioning on the burners. It's really dumb. We had a power outage in the summer at dinner time and I was relieved we had gas... Until I realized it didn't work.
