My big goal this year is to prepare the house for NativeJR. Which is going to be pretty ambitious as MRS. Native wants to put in completely new floors which is going to be a massive job.

I also want to get about 50 quail, so will need to build them a completely new pen and set up fortunately that shouldn’t be too difficult I don’t think.

I would also like to grow bunnies and that will be a lot of work because you have to make several pens to separate the men and the women and the babies since rabbits are pretty violet and will kill the babies if you aren’t careful.

I’m hoping for a great harvest on garlic (which I already planted) and hoping my three rhubarb plants will take off this year.

Basically home renovations is the big thing. I cut down my booze a lot and it’s basically just once a month now and I’m hoping to cut it back to just special events this coming year.

I also want to focus on cutting down my debt, it jumped up quite a bit and my household is now just a one income family so we have to be more careful with money. Though if the rabbits and quail take off this year, that should really save a lot of money on meat.

The food isn’t that expensive for them. Tell you what though, gardening is $$$ buying good soil is NOT cheap.

What is everyone else looking forward to?

Started canning last year. I want to ramp that up like crazy. I want to start milling and storing grain for long-term next year and get a few deer in the freezer. Trying to get away from grocery stores (and other shopping) as much as possible.

check out drying too, fermenting is another good method for preservation, making your own wine is also really easy too

Good idea. I've been meaning to get a dehydrator. I've made beer before so I probably have nearly all the equipment but I found bottling to be a huge pain and would only do it again if I were kegging it. Where do you get your grapes?

[–] 0 pt

you dont need grapes, you can make wine out of anything really, iv made some from the strawberries and black berries from the garden and also a load of other random stuff from the supermarket, you could also grow your own grapes if you have the climate and space, i did attempt it but the plant was having none of it

bottling wine is pretty easy too, you dont need to worry about pressurising it, just siphon it in to the bottle from the demijohn then cork it

That’s a great resolution! What did you can? I did a bunch myself, blueberry jam, strawberry rhubarb, peach pear, pickled asparagus and carrots.

I got a pressure canner for Christmas so I’m hoping on doing fish this summer as well.

Lots of tomato sauce, tomato soup, green beans, corn, mexican pickled carrots and peppers, lots of pickles. I didn't try any meat, fish, or pasta sauce. I think next year I want to focus on more instant meals like canned soup.

Any tips on pickles? I want to make some myself but it seems like most home canners make the pickles too soft and not crunchy.

love people more

Oh, and eat more apples

[–] 1 pt

Love all people or just some people? Also as a question, is it our job to love people or is it Gods job?

Case in point the bible says we are to love good and hate evil.

[–] 0 pt

you are also to love your enemies btw

but i wont share my apple with them

[–] 3 pts

Loving your enemy was a mistranslation. That is not what we are told to do.

[–] 2 pts

Not make gay resolutions you wont attempt to complete

No vax shot!
Not wear masks in public.
Travel out of the country.
Red pill at least 4 people
Have at least ten people make a snide remark about me not wearing a mask.
Build two ESP32 projects

[–] 1 pt

I went and got a doctors note about not wearing a mask and it still doesn’t work in half the places

Hey native I heard you had been stopped on the way over (s01.geekpic.net) Good to see you free

The misses and I want to add another white child to the world this year, thats our big goal, everything else is pretty superfluous. I don’t drink much, so I’m gonna try cut out sugar in January.

Thanks for posting, glad you’re on Poal.

[–] 1 pt

Thank you!

Fantastic goal and the effort is fun! As for cutting sugar, part of the issue for many is balancing the gut bacteria. Look into “Kambucha” as an alternative to fizzy drinks and sodas.

[–] 1 pt

Thanks, I don’t drink fizzy drinks or beer. Nothing fizzy at all, but I do like my tea. Five or six cups of tea and coffee, well the sugar adds up. It’s the little bad habits that are the hardest to shake :)

To crush my enemies, see them driven before me, and hear the lamentations of their non-binary faggot partners.

I have no concrete goals for the coming year, nor will I make any resolutions. 2019 was the year I got my shit in order, and I was enthusiastically anticipating 2020, certain I would continue this growth. You can guess why I'm somewhat reluctant this time around. At least I managed to keep my head above water, and not fall back into old habits. There was little to no growth, though no stagnation either. So, if I have any goal for 2021, it would be to again keep my head above water, and try to continue personal growth.

Happy New Year's everyone, it's really nice seeing some of you have made it here.

[–] 1 pt

May I ask why you felt there was stagnation?

[–] 0 pt

I wrote that there wasn't any stagnation, which I'm thankful for. Though, to be honest, standing still kind of felt like moving backwards, if that makes any sense.

[–] 1 pt

My apologies must have misread that.

And yes that makes sense, I’ve been there with student loans in the beginning. It felt like I wasn’t making any progress on the loans even though I would a ton every month for years

Punch in Khazar beaks on the streets

No you wont

I made a comment the other day about my quail. Do it, get some quail. What kind are you looking at?

[–] 0 pt

I already have two Japanese hens and want to keep them Japanese but the problem is that there aren’t any pure Breds around my parts and it’s difficult to mail eggs where I live so I may just have to get Courtonix and make muts.

I love my hens though. Quail are the most underrated bird. People who buy chickens instead are making a mistake

[–] 1 pt

I say the same thing about quail being underrated. I didn't realize you've got a couple now, so you'll be fine.

[–] 0 pt

I wanted to get a couple just to test out the waters and I absolutely love them!

Finish fencing in the new property so the goats have plenty of brush instead of just grass and the trees we cut for them. I'll also plant deer plot mixes for them to eat.

We are also going to set up for rabbits.

My goal in gardening this year is to can at least a hundred cans of tomatoes/sauce. And some pickles, beans, peas. The garden I hope to have this year is much larger than the one I had before. I'll need to figure out what I will accept as pest control, too. I have a large drum I want to catch rain water in for it as well. Tried to find a local herbalist group to learn what grows native for natural remedies. They haven't been meeting because of Covid.

If Trump remains in office, I'll begin selling goat milk and honey soap. I want to qualify for a gate card which allows us to purchase anything livestock related tax free, but I have to show a profit. Right now it's only a loss.

Also want to figure out how to get the oven and water to work when there is no electricity. Solar is expensive. I'll be happy to hand pump water if that's what it takes, just need to figure it out.

Edited to add that I'm thinking about making my own pasta.

Have so much to do.

Finish fencing

I did a little fencing for my Quail hutch and damn is that hard work! A very under-rated work out routine.

Water and oven to work

Get a small gas generator and run extension cords to it in a pinch. That’s what people do in my area. Alternatively you could set up a couple of batteries, keep them charged up and wire a harness to them so you can plug in the water/stove when the power goes out.

Alternatively, buy a propane oven instead of electric and you won’t have to worry about the power going out.

[–] 0 pt

We have a propane oven, but it doesn't function if there is no electricity. I've never had propane before so it was very surprising.

A gas generator works short term but I was really hoping for long term solutions in case electricity is out and gas is unavailable.

[–] 1 pt

The oven part won’t function without electricity however, the burners will which is what really matters. Unless you have some brand new oven that has an electronic burner switch that prevents it from opening when you turn the knob. Which I can imagine for whatever reason has been designed already because people are too stupid.

As for long term solutions yes, you’ll have to think of something else so again, depending on where you live and in the winter time solar doesn’t really work.

Always better to have an alternative and you are spot on for thinking ahead
