I think having a 433mhz set of devices that could be around the house to trigger things is a nice idea. Push button, laundry slave comes to clean the bedroom or shitter.
I guess I could use the lutron pico remotes for a similar task. Most of the automation buttons look like faggotry shit.
Home Assistant + hacked about anything or ESP based devices you can build yourself or re-flash with a custom firmware. I try to post and I should be posting some of my own projects but I have not had time to. Lots of things going on in life.
subbed, forgot about that. I dont do much hacking of the hardware. My forte is making it work without input. Moving a switch on the wall to a phone is nigger tier solutions. Its honestly faster to get up and flip a switch.
So with the use of motion detection, mmWave detectors, White person logic, you can make a home smart. Think I already posted this, but here it goes again. Motion in Hall. -- If triggered between (30min before sunset) and (30 min after sunrise) dim lights to 5% [ if you led, then the lowest they will dim without flicker] -- If no motion for 5 min, dim to off.
I set this to "follow you" so if you go hall to living, to kitchen, they come on so you don't trip on the dog, or dead niggers or legos. Then it "self heals" with time. So I don't need to touch a thing just get up and shit works. Same in bathrooms, 5%, motion in shitter, vent fan for 10 min, humidity above 70% vent for 20 min, poll after 20, trigger another 20 if needed.
Other interesting things I do. Bath Light, if between 6am and 9am, status changes to off, turn off all other lights. So I don't forget the closet, or have to walk back over there.
Outdoor at entry doors, dusk -30 dim lights to 70%, every hour dim lights 10% (to 30% leave on till dusk +30)
Entry lock code 3 wrong codes, turn on light at door 100%, flood lights, 100%, 1 sec, off, repeat (flash), turn on all lights in house (if not occupied [based on is a list of mobile device mac addy on the network]) if occupied, squak siren for .5 seconds 3 times. (so if asleep)
if garage tilt sensor open more than 5 min, close door (override script on phone) this would be a good for a magic button.
If guest room u occupied, turn off all lights, fan plug.
I used to have a glad thing that had the compressed chemical spray shit in them, they had a motion detector you could wave you hand at and activate. I since threw them all away, don't need chemical smell shit, need to build an essential oil difuser with on off for this. But I'd do this - If garage is opened, or if front door opened, turn on bath and bed light for 2 sec then off. The light would trigger the motion sensor, and pssst the spray, so when you came home, the whole house smelled like a relator open house. (this used if gone routine, if mac addy is on network, don't do.
that type of out of the box thinking is real automation, I don't have to tell jaris, siri, alexa, or the hooker to do anything. Just go about your business and shit happens.
Oh, I have a habit of staying up late and not watching the time, fixed that in the living and office - If home, turn on lights to 70% at dusk+30, dim 5% on the half hour every hour, turn off. This stair steps the light to ready you for sleep, then when they go off, its time to hit the sack.
If forecast is < 36 degrees, disable sprinklers (don't have them in new house) but yeah.
If bedroom room occupied, temp outside <55, at 6am turn on heat vent. This warms up the bath when its cold outside. I havent figured out how to have it slide the pocket doors closed :/ So I just close them or tell my guests to close them so the bath will warm up.
I used to have a fan hanging in the condo garage, if garage opens, temp rises by 5 degrees (tests if hot care in there) hold garage open for 10 min, turn on fan hanging from ceiling.
Christmas lights, yeah, check. Christmas tree, at noon, turn on 100%, at 3 dim to 60% at , dim 5% every hour (leave on at 10% until morning) 6am turn off.
Oh, ceiling fans, why she can't turn them the fuck off is beyond me. - If not occupied for 5 min, turn off.
Before mmWave I did this with pure motion detectors, and did a if motion between 6pm-12pm, set variable to occupied, don't run the turn off shit in room. Then if a guest went into the room when you would expect them too, it set to occupied and did or didn't based on that variable. 11am, reset variable to vacant.
Using your White brain you can work your way around all of this. The time up front is large, but once its done, you can just fine tune it, or forget about it, then the place is truly automated.
I should cross post to automation.
