It wouldn't surprise me if they had a timer in it to auto-expire.

Reminds me of these company who sell salt and put an expiration date on the packaging. lol
They did the same with toner for a laser printer I have at work. Toner doesn't ever go bad, but once you use the cartridge, you have a year to finish it up. I only print about once a week on the thing.
Guess who will never ever buy a printer from that company again? This guy.
Can you at least tell us the brand? I suspect it is HP, but who knows anymore.
That one was a Samsung. I have a number of the old HP Laserjet machines. They are upwards of 10 years old and they keep trucking along, and you can buy generic cartridges for them. I like them even though I hate HP now. They have added chips with expiration dates since then, on their newer printers. The only thing I have difficulty with these old HPs is that you have to dick around with the drivers. HP stopped supporting perfectly good, working printers and a lot of people just threw them out. Actually that's how I ended up with them.
