The term "Amerindian" is short for "American Indian". I think it's a superior term to "Native American". I am a citizen of the United States of America, so I'm an American. I was born in this country and so were many of my ancestors. How am I not a native American or an indigenous person? Propaganda.

"Nativism" defined by Wikipedia is "the political policy of promoting the interests of native inhabitants against those of immigrants, including by supporting immigration-restriction measures." That sounds decent. It even implies an American like me can be a native American. Lets read further. "In scholarly studies "nativism" is a standard technical term. Those who hold this political view, however, do not typically accept the label. Oezguer Dindar wrote, ' [N]ativists ... do not consider themselves [to be] nativists. For them it is a negative term and they rather consider themselves as 'Patriots' '." Oh, academics created it as a slur against Americans who like fellow Americans.

Don't let people word game you out of your country. It's important to resist replacement, even at a small psychological level like this. Happy Columbus Day!
