My late father only used Snap-on tools as an antique car restorer. The big old Snap-on tool van used to pull into the driveway and I remember as a kind thinking my dad was the coolest.
In my case, I was a young grease monkey in a service station pulling down about $2.65 an hour. But that's all it took for the Snap-On man to extend credit. Bought a 3/8" socket set in a red mechanics box for $80 on time payments that were taken out of my paycheck for Lord knows how long. Still have it - good investment!
Those red Snap-on tool boxes were as sturdy as their tools.
Here it is. Sadly the original ratchet was stolen from my truck when I had tire work done back in 2018. Manager swore up and down it wasn't his guys - none used Snap-On tools. He turned into a dick when I told him it was on the floor of the back seat when I dropped it off, and I just wanted it back. He pretty much told me to pound sand until I stated I would call the police - at which point he offered to buy me a replacement. I told him to pound sand - I didn't do business with firms employing thieves, and called the police right in front of him.
Long story short, someone wound up getting arrested, I wrote the home office telling them the branch was shitty and needed purged, I never got my ratchet back nor restitution but that branch got closed and tuned up 6 months later.
Bought the replacement out of my own pocket a couple months later - believe it was $137. I laughed so hard when he told me the price, he must of thought I was psycho. Then I told the story and showed him the set.
It is a damn fine tool, but not being a grease monkey I can't justify ever buying one. For me the ol husky lifetime warranty makes up the quality gap. Not like a home desperate employee is gonna call me out for putting a 5' cheater bar on it and torquing it way over spec.
