It’s been a long time coming. I was born and raised in San Francisco. I’ve lived in Marin County the last 27 years. And it’s really sad how it’s all changed. No, that’s not right. It’s all gone to shit.

Ever since 2021, we knew we had to move. The first question was: Do we move to another state, or to another country? After things calmed down a little, another state seemed like a reasonable option. For now. But which one?

We looked at Texas. Too hot, too flat, too close to the southern border. We looked at Idaho. Too expensive (where we’d want to be) and the winters can be harsh. Also, no proper services for my daughter. We considered Tennessee, Arkansas, and a few others. Then one day I found myself in Nevada.

Now, I’ve been to Nevada plenty. But I never thought about living there. And a couple of years ago through some odd circumstances, we lucked in to a decent swath of wooded land. It’s isolated, quiet, off-road-ish access only, 45 minutes out of town, and there’s water.

Then a year ago, more odd circumstances led us to buying a nice house on the outskirts of town. Big lot, BLM land behind us, gorgeous views of the valley. And for about the last year we’ve been setting up the new house and waiting for my Son to graduate. Well, he graduated last week and he’s off to be a camp counselor for the summer. This week we’ve been packing.

And tomorrow, we leave.

I’m trying not to look back. It’s difficult, seeing how I have so many memories of when things were better than they are now. But when I force myself to look at things now, I can’t imagine why anyone would want to put up with the bullshit of living anywhere in California.

If you live in California, get the fuck out. Get out as soon as you can. Things in California are getting very, very, very bad. This place will cost you money, but worse it will cost you your soul.

Yeah I was there for about 20 years and left in 2010-2011. I was worried at first but once I did I never looked back. So happy I did it and I know you will be too. Good luck with everything and God bless.
