In case you followed my thrilling tales of wisdom tooth extraction and the subsequent 'Lockjawening', its been a good three weeks and I was wondering, 'Is this my life now?'

I tried massaging, homebrew physical therapy, Ibuprofen and Diclofenac. Nothing seemed to help and I couldn't chew any food without severe pain, so bottom line, only soup for me.

In the last few days, I noticed I could open more than in the beginning and I could close my mouth in the morning but it would get bad again during the day.

Today was the first day I could actually enjoy some grilled meat and use my teeth for what they're meant to do.

What a relief. I had almost given up hope and it kind of paralyzed me mentally. Just in case this happens to any of you, give it time, it will work out.

Congrats, rustler. Glad it all worked out for you, or at least is working out. Any idea on what caused it beyond the wisdom tooth extraction?

Also, you probably know this, but ginger helps with mouth pain. Not sure it'd help overly much with what's going on, but it might offer a tiny bit of relief. Make some home made ginger tea, make it strong, and sip that if you're still having pains.

No idea, especially because it all started appx. nine days after the extraction. The dentist said it was a muscle issue and I should get physical therapy, massages and warmth. All those things I can do myself without going to a specialist and I did. I was really desperate there for a while.

It shouldn't have occurred in the first place and even if it did, only lasted for a week at most is what I've been told. Thanks for the ginger tip. I'll keep some on hand just in case. Will candied ginger work? That keeps really well.

No idea about candied ginger. I usually just throw ginger root up in the freezer, and it keeps for a few months before needing to be replaced. Make sure you keep it in an air-tight bag with as much moisture drawn out, otherwise it turns soggy and stringy when you thaw it out to use.

You can also cut a chunk off and throw it in some dirt; it's remarkably easy to grow. That also gives you the benefit of ginger leaves for cooking or tea.
