Don't get me wrong. China and others have been taking full advantage of our stupidity and undercutting our own manufacturing. Even if we wanted to make it here, it would be impossible because state-funded Chinese companies would simply undercut until the competition is gone.

Here's why I think it's dangerous: He's applying tariffs to China. That's literally the only way we're going to stop the flood, we have to make it so the flood can't get here and that's by making imports from China far more expensive.

HOWEVER, China has already been moving things to other countries. Viet Nam in particular is a low-renter's low-rent place. This country wants to negotiate a like-for-like 0% trade tariff setup. With Chinese companies already having a foothold in the country, they'll just move things there instead. Mega-factories will pop up there just like they did in China, and we'll have the same flood of crap in a few years - except at 0% import.

We're doing the equivalent of the Maginot Line. China is simply going to walk around the wall and right back into the country.

The purpose of the tarrifs is twofold. They have equal weight. First is to open foreign markets to US goods. Second is to convince manufacturers to make thier poduct here and hire americans to do it.

Opening their markets is something even their people want becasue american stuff is desired around the world.

The tarrifs are also meant to convince the billionaires to bring manufacturing here so that they can actually make more money because of the expansion of the economy, especially since they are losing a few million customers as they get deported. Think about this... an Iphone can be assembled in 6 minutes so a worker can do ten an hour and even with a 50% markup on his 40 an hour their cost is still only 6 bucks per unit... a lot to them but nothing to the consumer... so we just need to hold fast and let them bring that shit home. Secondly.. the press is lying about the effect of tarrifs on retail it is on the billionaries who will suffer big because of volume. The reason is a tariff is paid at the port so if a 250 dollar purse costs a store 100 bucks, but only costs 50 bucks at the border a 60% tarrif would raise the price to 80 at the border, so the 30 bucks needs to be absorbed or passed on.. so if 20 is passed on then the retail price jumps to 280 or 12% on a luxury item not 400 like the press is claiming. An avocado is 40 cents at the border and 1.29 at the store. The tariff at 20% would be 8 cents... the store eats half and raise the price less than a nickel... We need open markets and we need incentives to bring manufacturing home so we can be self sufficient and tell the world to suck it on any given day.
