Yesterday my wife and I decided to out and have breakfast before a morning of errands. We hadn’t been out for breakfast in a while just because we prefer to eat at home. Anyway, she ordered her stuff and I got two eggs and toast. The bill came and I was charged $2.69 per egg. This works out to about $32 a dozen. I was shocked. I never really paid attention before about the mark up on things in restaurants but this got my attention.

Prices sky rocket, the resturaunt charges accordingly. Prices fall, the resturaunt continues to charge the super high price.

True. Nationally egg prices are down from a year ago. The "we had to add a surcharge for eggs" kicker remains and will never go away.

And they made about 3.65 in profit off of your visit. The margins are so small at those places it's hardly worth it anymore.

Wait until you look into the markup for soft drinks, beer, wine, and cocktails at bars...

Anywhere that sells fountain type drinks.

Drinks are usually the leaders for markup percentage.

I hope you paid the 20% tip as well. My buddy makes between $250 and $350 in tips serving at a local pub and bowling alley per day. It's crazy.

Used to be breakfast was crazy cheap to go out for. Not so much anymore.

I have to get some coffee with breakfast.

And Denny's isn't cheap to start with either. I was absolutely shocked at the prices when I visited for the first time in years.
