Did that USAID money run out for you too??
Lol! That's funny. The timing is suspect.
Super suspect. I think we're going to need to waterboard you now.
Just don't make me eat "too much" ! Lol!

Have you tried connecting using something other than the Kindle?
Tried my wireless laptop, no difference.
Tried my wireless laptop, no difference.
Saw that right after I hit the 'Post comment' button.
How about a wired connection to the router?
I have my old desktop that I haven't used in months. Runs no longer supported Windows7 or something. I haven't used it for web browsing in many years.
Oh, the signal strength indicators on the kindle and laptop indicate a strong signal.
Good luck with the internet issues.
I wouldnt trust provider hardware. I'd get one of the devices supported by either open-wrt or dd-wrt and load that.
I get my "landline phone" through the provider supplied modem/router/wifi too. Severely limits my options.
Any ideas? Did I miss anything?
I'd try a different source for internet too, mobile hotspot... Long shot tho. Or isp is mad about something in web traffic. Most likely the router is finally ded as you're predicting.
Any chance you got some kind of malware?
Unlikely, but possible. The internet equipment is ~ 10 years old and the provider is offering free upgrades ... so I'm sus about the internet equipment.
I just got starlink, it works well I was able to get 100Mbs down and 30Mbs up, (located in northern California)definitely enough for a single user. I would recommend the house model with the heated dish, as I got the mini as a back up and disaster communications device.
I've pondered switching to starlink if I decide to switch. I think I'd prefer StarLink over Hughes.net.
I wouldn't expect equipment to cause a sudden decrease in speed, at least not directly.
I have a suspicion they want you to upgrade, and are sort of "forcing" you to, by killing performance. Microsoft did this to us a while back with one of our SFTP servers. It was old, out of spec, MS wanted us off of it, so they started intermittently killing performance. They actually told us this when we called support, and gave us 90 unimpacted days to find a new solution.
I think they do it with Windows updates too. I'll ignore updates for a month or two and start seeing strange behavior. Restart without update doesn't fix it, but updating fixes it. It's dirty, unethical, and seems like it should be illegal but I've never read their EULA so probably something I've agreed to.
As far as what you can do? Ask the provider what models of router you're able to use, and buy your own. It usually pays for itself within two years, vs. the monthly lease.
I'm pretty much stuck with provider supplied modem/router/wifi because they provide my land line phone too. The phone modem is part of it.
You need a land line?
Yes, I was tethered to pagers, cellphones, desk phones, voice mail, email, etc the last 15 years of my career. That got old fast. I swore off cell phones after I quit work. A land line is really all I need if someone wants to contact me. I have a texting app on my kindle so texting is covered. If I go on a trip with friends, someone always has a cell phone if I ever need it. Cell reception sucks in my area, hills and moutains create a lot of dead spots and dropped calls. F#ck it, I don't need the aggravation and find little added value in the added monthly expense.
It started yesterday afternoon.
Check router cabling. Check antenna on router if present. Check the router logs for anything awry. Check router for suspect connected devices. Check wireless networks in your area for any new networks that may be conflicting with yours. Wire another device to router and check connection.
Not going to help with the net issue but...

If you need to run a windows box you could look at: https://windowsxlite.com/
If you’ve never used a VPN for browsing Poal, you might have triggered a kike working for your ISP. It’s easy to throttle an account.
Did you try to contact the support?
No vpn ever, haven't contacted support yet, was getting ready to do that after making sure it isn't something on my end that I overlooked. After spending 10+ minutes for the page to load, I was able to get the number of the local Spectrum customer service center in the next town, but the web says it is closed (like it was after hours), possibly because we are getting 3"-6" of snow this afternoon. The number seems to be out of state.
It looks like I'm going to be limping along for a few days until a new providerr supplied modem/router/wifi arrives.

Did your problem happen when it started to snow?
No, started yesterday on a clear day.
New equipment should fix it. If not, have them check the lines. Old-ass coax is everywhere, and it does go bad after a while, plus out of spec.
Maybe your log files have filled up the memory on that thing over 10 years. I know you said you did a reset but did you do a hard reset? Like where you have to put a pin into the little hole on the device for 15 seconds?
Not aware of that type of reset on this. I unplugged everything, waited a couple of minutes, plugged it all back together. No change. That was the old school hard reset AFAIK.
look on the back of your device, its usually near the 12vlt power input, it'll be a round hole. Put a paperclip end in it and plug it in/turn it on but hold the pin in there and the device should factory reset withing 15 seconds. Its easy and its worked for me a few times. If you didnt have to reset your wifi ssid/password yet you havent factory reset it.
