The wife and I were at a friends' house last night for a little backyard gathering. They'd invited 5 or 6 couples from the friend group, but there were 2 other couples there that I only barely know, as they're neighbors who I've only met in passing.

The conversation (of course) turned to the election and it was the typical 'D vs R' bullshit, so I stayed quiet and let them do their thing.

At one point, one of the neighbors (the wife) asked me why I hadn't said anything, and you could see the tension ratchet up with everyone else. The host cut in and said, "Anon is the friend that you have to explain to other friends before they meet him, and I forgot to do that."

I said I'm more than happy to stay out of it, as my politics are somewhat outside of the mainstream, and we left it at that. (I'd participated in all the other conversation up to that point.)

A little while later the conversation shifted back to Congress and that same woman tried to get me to chime in. The topic was about "GRIP," or "Get Rid of Incumbent Politicians." (The idea is to keep voting against the incumbents to make them feel insecure of their roles.)

The wife, who was always on the "D" side of the conversation, asked me if I'd want to get rid of congresspeople.

I looked at the host and said, "You know I've been staying out of it" and he said, "Admirable restraint, but feel free."

I said, "No, I wouldn't get rid of the politicians. I'd arrest and prosecute their AIPAC people."

Neighbor: The who? Me: AIPAC people. Neighbor: What's AIPAC? Me: It's the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. Neighbor: Why would you arrest them? Me: Because they're agents of a foreign nation influencing our governmental process. Neighbor: Are you an antisemite? Me: Yes, and a racist, and a bigot, and prejudicial as hell. Neighbor: I can't talk to someone like that. Me: I suspected as much, which is why I stayed out of it. Host: So... how 'bout that full moon last week? [Somewhat tense laughter]

The neighbor was quiet for the rest of the evening and they were among the first to leave. Everyone else had a good laugh about it and had a very nice evening.

I'm quite sure I'm the villain in her telling of the story and she's probably complaining about me to the host and hostess, but they will have my back and honestly, I couldn't give one shit less what that woman says about me.

You did well. These msm loving morons all think they're educated and have the moral ground way up above us. I won't stand for it anymore, if they go there with me then I'm speaking up. I have friends that now back me up instead of cringing in fear. I just say I think for myself and do my own research. I don't let some bad actor on an idiot box lie to me everyday. When asked where I get my info, I tell them from places you couldn't handle. The truth is horrific. It's almost always followed by silence and a change of subject. \o

Oh don't I hate having to listen to know it all libs at social gatherings while trying to keep the truth to myself in order not to hurt "feelings". My ex-gf was always begging me not to talk politics before we went to get togethers. Funny how she always expected me to listen to their opinionated BS without me exposing the flaws in their facts and logic. I never started those political conversations but I could quickly end them and leave the red faced lib seething. I didn't bring it on but felt I didn't have to stand and be burdened by CNN/MSNBC/ABC/CBS/NBC talking points and lies at a social event. They opened that door.
