Lookup the actual plane model before travel. If it's a Boeing, ask the airline to change your flight where they use some other aircraft. When enough people do that, it will send a message. Ask the airline how you can "help" them do a pre-flight check. Tell them you're looking for loose/missing bolts, excessive tape, missing sections of the airframe, etc.
