Bear was the best dog. All white Australian Shepherd Labrador. Thirteen years old. A solid age for the breed. Had a beautiful life. So friendly, so loyal, happy his whole life. Barked at any surprises, loved on any of our friends.

He had been slowing down a lot very noticably the past few months. A few weeks ago slowed his eating, which was his favorite thing, so made a vet apointment - that he never reached.

Fell down today and couldn't get back up. Called the emergency vet and had to carry him to the car to get him there. Was gone before we arrived.

I love you, Bear. Thank you for the happy memories.

All dogs go to heaven.

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill, Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still. Where the friends of man and woman do run, When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next, Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest. On this golden land, they wait and they play, Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness, For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness. Their limbs are restored, their health renewed, Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care, Until one day they start, and sniff at the air. All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back, Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met; Together again, both person and pet. So they run to each other, these friends from long past, The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart, Has turned into joy once more in each heart. They embrace with a love that will last forever, And then, side-by-side, they cross over together.

When I lost my last dog I said never again, then a stray showed up. I dont want to do it again.

I hear ya. My old lady had suggested a year or so ago we get a pup so the transition would be easier, but I said, "No dog can replace Bear."

I guess never say never, but right now it feels like never.

Nature's first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold. Her early leaf’s a flower; But only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf. So Eden sank to grief, So dawn goes down to day. Nothing gold can stay.

Thank you for the thought

It's a poem by Robert Frost about the inevitable death of all beings.

Man, hate to hear that, God did something special when He gave us dogs. Sorry for your loss.

So sorry. Losing a four legged family member is rough.

Dogs bring out the best in us, they love us unconditionally and allow us to love them unconditionally, and only love us more for doing so. That love you get to keep forever, nothing will ever erase the bond you and bear share, when one day you leave your body, that love stays with you, and will be made whole again.

I was crushed when my first dog died. Never wanted to feel that again so stopped myself from feeling that love. That was a mistake.

12 years later, I was married with kids. My wife picked out a puppy who looked a lot like my first dog. I didn't tell my wife this, I was going to let this be my wife and kids dog. That.litlle sweetheart dug right into my heart and has been my shadow since we got her. I'm cuddled up with her right now as I type this.

You have a lot of love to give, and Bear would of course want you to be happy. You will never love any other being the same way as bear, but you can love another dog. That doesn't mean you replaced bear or betrayed him, just that you filled the hole in your heart by allowing love to flow through it again in a different way.

My wish for you is to only remember the greatness that is Bear, and hols that love in your heart as a shield against the pain of the loss of his mortal life. You will be with him again one day, until then, share your love more to fill that time with happiness.

May God bless you friend.

Bear would want you to be happy, get a puppy. He will rest in glorious blissful peace. And watch over you, until you one day meet.

I took off work for two weeks when my first dog died. I was unconsolable. Hope you and the ones who loved Bear feel better soon. If I were you id be so proud he made it to a ripe old age. Good on you guys for keeping such a happy healthy dog

Thank you.

I like to think Bear isn't resting, but chasing squirrels in heaven.

Or gorging himself silly on his favorite food!

Bear will be in very good company chasing squirrels in heaven with my Abby girl. I like to believe all my dogs I’ve seen off to heaven (and it’s been a number of them considering I’m approaching 60 and always have 2-5 dogs at any one time), are always awaiting and greeting new comers with love, toys, and romps. God bless you, Bear.

Bright eyed and bushy tailed he awaits you on the other side. Sorry for your loss.

Thank you.

While we don't know exactly what heaven looks like, we know Jesus loves us. I can't imagine him turning good ol' Bear away. Someday we'll be praising Jesus together again.

Thank you.

Sorry for your loss. I had a dog named Bear too. My mom took him back to the rescue bc he was so afraid of my parents he'd run away, ran away for days at a time. Only liked me. I'm glad you got to keep yours even though they don't live forever. He's sort of lucky, not needing to be put down, stressed out at the vet being poked in the final moments. And he was with you guys. You did good.
