He had a chance to get out before this went down. But he wanted the YouTube celebrity. I don't really sympathize with him. He was actively undermining the regime in Ukraine from inside Ukraine while being a foreigner. They warned that guy. He should have left but he didn't cuz he liked the celebrity imo.
