When I lived with my mom for a few months, she had a washing machine that I hated. The thing just had a nipple in the bottom that somehow was supposed to swish clothes around. It would get unbalanced constantly and had to be babysat. These new water/energy/whatever saving things just cause more trouble and more energy/water use. Flushing toilets multiple times, etc. There were times I had to wash my clothes twice in a row to get the sweat out.
It's probably the only good thing about my apartment. I've got a washer and dryer that were cheap back in 2000 and I just keep replacing parts on them to keep "maintenance" from replacing them with some energy saver bullshit.
