They do not have to protect you. Uvalde showed us that. Supreme Court ruled on it. They lie and perjure themselves routinely. Even when caught violating policy and your rights they not only have "qualified immunity" , they get to investigate themselves.

If they lose a case for violation of constitution or what not then you get payed out in the tax or rate dollars from that district/state ect.
