They do not have to protect you. Uvalde showed us that. Supreme Court ruled on it. They lie and perjure themselves routinely. Even when caught violating policy and your rights they not only have "qualified immunity" , they get to investigate themselves.

I admit I've seen far more professionalism and recognition of our Rights from Sheriffs than any other branch.
