I used to like weight lifting, but now I'm having a few problems. One is my knees hurting. I can't do squats with a pathetic amount of weight. I hurt my shoulder, but I started doing light, long weight lifting. Then I started having a problem with nerve irritation around the elbows of both arms. I've had a problem with heel pain, so I don't know running/jogging. I've been doing calf and lower back training to prevent heel and lower back pain respectively. I was doing arm/leg bike for a little while, but I thought that might be irritating the nerves in my arm. Also, it's an obscure machine I won't have access to in most places.
I'm thinking about getting back into regular biking. I've heard it's better to go heavy on resistance, but I find if it's too high, my leg muscle burn out before I can get my heart rate up and breathing heavy. I recently heard from someone who was about to turn 100 that a lard barge that exercises regularly (at least 15 minutes every day) will be better off than a skinny person (especially skinny fat) who doesn't. Last time I tried light and fast biking, I was having trouble building up stamina. I don't know if I'm getting old or if there's something wrong. I used to do at least 9 theoretical exercise bike miles in 30 minutes. Now I can't even get 3 miles in 10 minutes. At one time I was seeing how fast I could go and actually got 10 miles in 30 minutes by killing myself on the bike. I used to do weights as well as the biking. I don't know if that contributed anything.
Is your cardiopulmonary system fubar? You should not have so little stamina as you age. Lower aggregate strength and worse recovery time sure, but 3 measly miles on a bike shouldnt wear you out
I have had heart stuff checked and there was no problem. I just found I had almost no ability to build up more ability like I had before.
Start hitting the bike daily. Take protein and creative powder daily to improve recovery time and build muscle. You're probably getting too little exercise and not eating the amount of meat it takes to support those gains (no shade, you have to hork down steak at every meal to get enough protein for that).
