If I wanted a piece of shit UI on top of Debian, I'd download Ubuntu. Ubuntu is Swahili for "I can't configure Debian."
It's the easiest "noob" distro. My recommendation is Manjaro
The irony is that Cinnamon is one of the best desktop environments.
I usually prefer XFCE if I need a GUI on a system. I've played with fluxx and icewm as well but those are minimal to the point of no return.
I have a serious love hate relationship with Cinnamon. I LOVE it, in theory, because it's everything that Mate and XFCE are, with more bells and whistles and visual appeal. But I HATE it because the fucking thing is SOOOOO prone to breakage when it updates.
I stick with XFCE because it's far more stable for gaming and is "stable" (read: updates slowly), but watch Cinnamon closely because I miss it
That is strange, XFCE had been much more prone to breaking than Cinnamon from my experience.
