Why Steam? Any particular reason?
The only gaming machine I have right now is a fairly high-power Win7 machine I bought for circuit design work when 6th gen i-cores were the thing, those being the last version of CPU that had drivers for Windows 7.
While I understand that Valve no longer wants to support clients for Win7, their dropping of that support will also make all of the games I purchased no longer work because they tightly integrate them with the DRM-laced client. This includes the games I've purchased that haven't been updated in years.
Since I can't play what I bought or purchase new ones, there's no need to have the system.
This is why we pirate games.
I have not tried this but it may work for older games: https://github.com/atom0s/Steamless Also, I think I read somewhere that GOG can work as an alternative launcher but only for some games.
Interesting.
Are you, me? I have a few Steam games I’ve paid for, but I’ve been racking up free deals for ages. And my desktop and laptop are a Win7 and Win8 I can’t afford to have anything fuck up trying to upgrade.
Another reason to sail the seas. 🏴☠️
Some of the games I had in my library seem to work ok without the client, but others won't run without it.
