What job and what do you consider crazy wages?

I get lots of calls for jobs, many of them pay more now than they did two years ago - except that what they pay now is what they should have paid in 1998.

I'm talking hourly work. $30/hr+ for unskilled construction general labor

I can see where that would be hard to fill. That's a young man's game, and you're trying to attract an audience that's been told those kinds of jobs are beneath them.

wetbacks it is, I guess

Where are you at? I could fill a van with young dumbs for that kind of loot. Give them $20

This is true in automotive, also. I'm shop foreman so I have a hand in hiring technicians. Dealership work is specialized, and we can't find brand certified techs let alone c-tech oil change people. I would have taken a beating to be offered our "new" starting flat rate pay... 10 years ago! Automotive technicians were incredibly underpaid for a long time, and now is the time to get into the industry! On the hiring end.... crickets. I see very few young men and women applying for automotive service work, the majority of the applications I get is for part-time car wash people.

So it's a job that has been historically underpaid and you are wondering why young people didn't flock to it? Something about needing $1000's of my own tools and training to be paid 20-40hr, only when there is work to be done, while the shop charges $120 hour, just doesn't seem like a good gig. Maybe there is more to it? I'm not seeing it.

Don't forget, you need to already be brand certified to apply unless you want to be the bitch boy doing oil changes and tire rotations all day.

All of our flat rate techs make between $60k and $100k a year. All went to some kind of 2 year automotive school, and yes, everyone has to purchase their own basic tools. There's some cost involved in getting into the industry, but in my area that pay range is better than what most people earn a year. It's not a bad career if you're willing to put the work in. Plus you eliminate many automotive repair and maintenance costs for you and your family, which is a huge benefit.

60-100k? Hot damn. Doesn't sound too bad.

They don't want to sweat or get dirty.

Wage jobs aren't worth it and it's that simple. It's either skilled trade or manual labor that doesn't require a single other person to do. Somebody posted a 4chan post about mowing lawns for cash rather than being a wage-slave. That's far far far better pay than being a wagie and you don't have to pay taxes or follow some jew rules.
