That's another reason why I never went.

On one hand, the vast majority of people I have met at rehab are really kind, caring individuals who just want to get better. They come in pretty strung out and fucked up, but after they shake it off a little and really get into, most of them are pretty fucking intelligent people with rare insight into the human condition.

On the other hand, the people you meet who are assholes are assholes of Legendary proportion, the truly vile scum of the Earth. Occasionally it is hard to notice how awful these people are at first, because there is the tendency to make excuses for their behavior, like they are just going through a lot, or they come from fucked up places and backgrounds. But some of these people are just truly psychotic assholes.

That's a typical addiction trait, blame everybody and everything else for their situation. The ones who sincerely take responsibility for their own actions are the ones who are most likely to remain clean and sober.

I saw almost none of this in rehab. It is more filled with regret and self-hatred than anything.
