Back before 2015/2016 a huge aspect to web development was Speed and Compatibility.
Now, you are required to update to the latest version of one of two browsers: Firefox or Chrome
Your browser is out of date by 2 weeks? looks like the site won't load properly for you. Just clicked on a button? Well you're gonna have to wait about 5-10 seconds for it to respond because it's hitting some cloud platform in the backend which is presently spinning up a machine to handle your request.
Most mainstream websites are bloated, slow, unresponsive, and it all requires massive web browser "platform" to be installed on your machine, giving access to every part of your computer to random websites.
