I quit cigarettes in one day after smoking for 17 years. I just didn't want to anymore. The only reason I didn't quit before was because I liked it. Same with other substances. Very easy to do when you decide you don't want it anymore.

I agree partially, but in the sense that only the person can change and everything else is just a crutch that will always be needed everytime they relapse. The strength needs to come from within.
