Had a bad fly problem towards the end of last summer, so I put out a fly trap jar. It worked pretty well and by mid fall was completely full of dead flies.
I knew it was gonna stink like hell so I left it alone to fill up with rain. Decided to empty it out today and almost puked immediately. Holy fuck does that smell, and all I managed to do was unscrew the lid before I had to walk away.
Hoping it's less puke inducing tomorrow after it freezes overnight. If I'd known I would have just dumped it in the trash, but I wanted to reuse the jar this spring.

There is a crystalline bait that kills flys. They land on it, consume and die. Pretty much works instantly. I often find them dead on it in the dish it's in. I bought a coffee can sized supply of it at Tractor Supply or Rural King. Idr which one, it's been over a year. Stuff really lasts with that much of it. The brand name is QuickStrike. Big red can. Keep it away from pets. I prefer to use a small plastic throw away dish, think condiment size, and put it up where pets can't get it. Got the idea from a poultry farmer couple of years ago. Zero problems since I used it. See a fly, put some fresh bait out. Bye flys. Zero smells from it.
