AI can only be as smart as the smartest person that worked on it's coding. Looking things up on the internet and storing the data does not represent intelligence. AI will never become self aware. If AI becomes evil, it is either programmed that way on purpose or it is allowed access to bad information only. AI cannot step outside the bounds of what humans already know. There has yet to be an AI that can make a human believe it is human. ChatGPT lacks the ability to truly understand the complexity of human language and conversation. It is simply trained to generate words based on a given input, but it does not have the ability to truly comprehend the meaning behind those words.
