is by if and how many MLM schemes I get contacted about on job boards. Think Mutual of Omaha, Globe Life, etc. Insurance companies where there are no jobs, they're just recruiting people to build their own pyramid, where you get to pay for thousands in licenses before you can even do anything at all. That's assuming you have the mindset to be able to scam seniors out of their money.

The telco crash of 2000, the housing crash of 2008, right before Trump got in office, all down times in the economy and those scammers were out in force, making pests of themselves. Some were to the point they texted constantly, saying they had already set up appointments for you to come in and discuss the "job." Last of of those I received, I told them that the only way I'd come in is if the texter would suck my dick. I got unsubscribed pretty quick.

Today, I get one from Globe Life. Since these asshats only seem to come out when they can prey on people's insecurity, I have to assume that shit is getting bad, economy wise.

Buckle up kids.

Our main customer just announced 3% layoffs.

Ouch.

I haven't seen any layoffs around me yet, but it's been kind of slow. I suspect they aren't far behind.

Since the beginning of 2023, recruiters have been out in full force in my industry. Not pyramid schemes, but actual opportunities

I've had some real opportunities as well, but the last time I had any number of MLM schemes was right before Trump took office. They were out in force - we had a couple of local ones that were just blowing up people's phones.

These aren't even Indian recruiters, they're just junk.

So is the Globe Life guy still considering your offer?

[–] 1 pt

LOL, inquiring minds want to know.

[–] 1 pt

No. I was unsubscribed from their text list almost immediately. I'm not sure why.

I got called about 20 times last month from different unknown numbers, no doubt all scammers. My bank also likes to call me several times per week or so, trying to rope me into taking a loan and get myself into debt. No thanks.

What bank do you use? I keep at least 40k in my checking at all times, but I never get calls from the bank directly. My credit card keeps increasing my credit line and offering loans through email and mail though. You can try doing that national do not call list thing too. I basically never get calls from unknown numbers because I don't give my number out. But if I do then I just ignore it.

I had to turn off all but my contact list. Nothing will ring through except mom, a couple of good friends, and the alarm company for the house.

I have been getting a lot of calls and texts from shitbags trying to buy my house on the cheap so they can rent it out. Now that I bought my mom's house I'm getting twice the calls.... I really hate those people.

I was getting those too - everyone I know was getting them. I found that they get your phone number from things like credit reports.

My solution was to get a google voice number for places that I deal with that want a phone number and just check the voice website (or application) for calls that I may need to review. My actual number is not given to anyone except trusted people and is whitelisted. If you're not a contact, you don't call.

Great idea! I have a saved text template that I respond to them with when they text me. I only ever got one response to that text.... calling me a Karen! These are not smart people.

I understand that many don't like Google, and I'm not keen on them, but that phone service is invaluable. You can have one number per email, I have one for business comms, and a number in an advantageous area code for job comms. You can forward the texts and voice-to-text as emails to the accompanying email address.

You will need to connect it to a real number when you sign up, but as soon as it's verified you can remove it. That may be a deal killer for some, but a phone number isn't a super-private thing. I've never had any spam to my actual cell number that I can trace to google, just the normal auto-dialers you get everywhere. Those get caught by the whitelisting.

My job just evaporated.

The peons at my job all got laid off. I am now 2nd from the bottom position-wise

Edit: Laid off 18 people out of about 50-60

"Last of those I received, I told them that the only way I'd come in is if the texter would suck my dick."

That's mighty brave of you, considering the societal trash-heap in which we currently live. For all you know, it's a dude who would be happy to oblige you..

There were a number of swear words in there as well, so I think the texter realized the offer was more of an insult.

However, if they'd replied in the affirmative, I'd have to come up with more insults for them.
