I’ve been exploring other techniques besides log. I built a small structure out of wattle for livestock. It’s surprisingly durable, even with livestock ramming into it. My test pieces of wattle and daub are actually doing way better than expected, I have far stronger and more useful wall than gypsum board.

I've watched videos of wattle structures and they are rather amazing. Not only are they durable but it looks like they are tough as hell to create. Those middle agers were really resourceful people.

Not so hard. Built a 3 sided and roofed structure in 2 days, roughly 4x7 internal, with a 6x9 roof. Used a chainsaw, big hammer, roll of twine and 2 pieces of metal roof. You can Roman kick the shit out of it with no damage. My samples that got daub as well are so tough they might as well be concrete. A bit of lime in the mix and it’s waterproof. Honestly, I’m going to build a house out of it, for nearly free, might take 3-5 months. Tricks like burning the ends of sticks you bury and a quick soak in boric acid water will make the structure last decades.
