Nobody walks through the frozen forests of Vermont on the Appalachian Trail in January. It's too cold. Too much snow. But you can be sure if a tree falls from the wind or a lightning strike, it's being recorded.
So the answer to that age-old physiological question is: It depends on which forest the tree falls.
