This site is usually useful for scientific papers. If they've just been published you may have to be patient.
Some have been posting certain links with 12ft.io here for many months, especially epoch times and WSJ paywall articles. You haven't been noticing. Good that you posted it so others are aware.
If you receive articles from epoch in your email you can use their share with a friend link and access the article that way as well.

Also i wrote a bookmarklet that does that w/ an instapaper account you can find in the bookmarklets sub. Just a click. I should update it as 2 otf it's other features have deprecated.

12ft works well but there's an extention simply called bypass paywalls that works very well.
