Babies are small and take up far less than half the volume. Amniotic fluid exists as well as the placenta. The ratios won't be the same when multiple babies are present. Also the cavity does get quite large with more than one so I'm not quite sure I see where your inability comes from.

But keep in mind that's potentially an optical illusion. Volume increase of a sphere versus visual increase of the radius of the sphere. One is linear the other is 4/3 pi r2.
