There are lots of talented artists out there that don't get any notice, except maybe in their local scene. Donovan was just another hippie-ish troubadour except that he happened to have a couple songs that got some airplay. But otherwise he wasn't doing anything that remarkable or genre-defining.
Good music is where you find it so fill your boots. But Donovan was mostly just another musician in a sea of similar musicians.
