For those of you who live in the south, in or near a large metropolitan area, and think a skiing vacation would be fun, but you pass on it because you have no experience, go to the local ice rink and practice skating. (I say large metro area because I'm not sure many ice rinks are found elsewhere in the South.)

The skill translates directly. Gliding, turning, stopping, simply moving forward on flat ground, and balance, it's all you really need to know to skip the bunny hill imho.

Buy some cross country skis, use your local parks in the winter too! You'll learn all that on flat ground and start finding bigger and bigger hills, learn how to wedge to take it as slow as you need.

When I was a child, we had a super cool and modern mall. We had an ice skating rink. I can remember going once. I was pretty young.

Then, ya know what happened?

Spics in the mall and niggers in the parking lot would be my first guess. That seems to be the trend these days.
