I understand your concerns, but what do you have to lose if you prepare? Maybe a few hours time and $100 to $200 in supplies, after which you become prepared for EMP’s and nearby lightning strikes (pretty much the same thing) indefinitely. The old homage to be safe than sorry is easily dismissed because it’s heard so often, but it applies nonetheless.
