Less than 18 months old. Quit working. $10,000 worth of beef, chicken, and pork now in ice chests for 4 days til we can get a new freezer. Of course it happened on our way out of town for the weekend. Fuck. What a shit show.

The secret is to buy one you don't like, one you hate and can't wait to replace. That thing will run until you're in the grave.

Can you claim food loss on homeowners insurance?

[–] 5 pts

Do you want to, they're just going to raise your premium until double is payed back.

Good question. I’ll see on Sunday what survived and what didn’t and see if it’s worth a phone call.

10 Grand worth of beef? How freakin big was this freezer? That's almost 2 whole cows worth of meat!!

Freezer is full size. And the beef is grass fed and finished organic. Doesn’t take long to get to $10,000.

Wow, How much do you pay per pound for finished beef? I could fill 3 or 4 freezers here in WA for that much money for the same type.

Depends on the cut, but $20-25/pound is not unusual. The ground beef is about $12/pound.

Had a few freezers, the biggest batleship class was from 1963, ran till I sold it a few years back. Still running I’m told. Shitty insulation tho. Newer ones … hit or miss. As lurker17 said, it is claimable on insurance. How did you fit 3000 lbs of meat in there?

It’s all high end food, and price adds up quick.

What was the brand?

I typically go out of my way to buy the most expensive shit possible so I don’t have to deal with that very problem, the only things I really replace are things between me and the ground, like my bed, shoes, tires, carpet, shit that wears out. After being in sales for years, and selling cheap shit to cheap people, and watching them come back time after time to replace or upgrade where they could’ve just done that in the first place, I realized that trying to save money costs you more money in the long run.

Westinghouse was the brand. Never again.

Oh ya man, when I was in cable those bitches were always the worst, always had problems

Same happened to me way sooner, think its frigidaire. Lost everything in it then when I left it unplugged and plugged it back in its working fine. Just no light to let me know its on. No more meat in it, just water for work and stuff that lasts longer frozen but dont need to be.

I got one from sears it was packed full and we lost power for 3 days and everything thawed. I wasn't worried about it at all because it has an alarm and it's in the cool basement. I should have known the alarm wouldn't work without power but I figured there was some sort of back up power for that.

3 days in a freezer not being opened shouldn’t be a problem. At least that’s been my experience going through 10+ Hurricane and tropical storms. And that’s usually hot as fuck in the house with max humidity.

Gotta hurry up and eat n drink everything out of the fridge though.

Why do you think your food didn’t make it?

Don't buy from Lowe's period. They gave loans out during the pandemic to only minorities. As if small White business owners weren't struggling. Fuck Lowe's. I don't buy front them anymore
