Either that, or the CO2 being expelled and recirculated back into their lungs is getting them high and they dont realize the mask has become their new drug of choice

I learned about nitrogen narcosis when I was a teenager, my buddy was getting certified with his father so he talked to me about it all the time. I've also seen that footage of that Russian diver in the Blue Hole, where he dies. I think you can see some of the symptoms manifest, mainly in his confusion and panic. If you show that footage to someone without context, they'd have no idea what is happening, why he's freaking out, why he won't just swim up, etc..

But yeah nitrogen as an inhalant produces a euphoric sensation- isn't that what laughing gas is mostly made of? Shouldn't do drugs though, especially inhalants, too unpredictable and dangerous for a very short high. There's a reason we've never had a nitrogen or ether epidemic in the USA; crack and opiates though? Oh yes we've had those problems.
