Cover them with sand or some other material to smother them and choke them of oxygen. Don't try to extinguish the fire, you won't. Rob the fire of a necessary component: oxygen. You're not going to get rid of the heat (what water does) and you're not going to get rid of the fuel source.

Guess the batteries can oxygenate (?) themselves and this wouldn't completely work. Then I guess just make (((EV)))s illegal.

Lithium batteries release oxygen when burning. You can't cut-off the oxygen to a self-oxygenating reaction.

Water or Sand isn't going to work. You have to encapsulate the fire and cool each battery cell to put out these fires. If you're really interested in this stuff you should check out NFPA 18A 7.7. Water could work if you dug a pit and pushed the car in there and filled it with water and left it for a few days. But we don't typically show up on scene with a backhoe!!

Hahahaha no.

If I see one of those vehicles on fire, I’m going to tell the owner of the vehicle to get up real close like with a big water hose and go to town spraying the water directly on the battery.

Those fucking ev owners deserve their fates.

if there is a battery fire you better stand quite far, the nasty fumes are most likely going to kill you very fast.

Also, where on earth do you find "sand" easily ? doing a camel trophy, lately ?

Ah, yeah, how are you going to do a camel trophy ? batteries have 1/10 of the power density of diesel....

Someone is thinking of dropping a replacement battery from the sky ?

This is great if you're in the desert or something.

sand is a precious material that is hard to come by

No, but I get your point however dumb it is. You think 1500* gallons of water is easier to come by than 150 gallons of sand or however much necessary to cover the battery?

Though they were using more and probably eclipsed 10,000 gallons. Fire hydrants are 500 gallons per minute.

>No, but I get your point however dumb it is.

And yet you're the one proposing a solution that just won't work at all

Oh the irony...

Reminds me of when you stated with a straight face that "The last time jews felt any threat to their world control was with Napoleon" https://poal.co/s/TellPoal/573895 while the guy emancipated jews wherever he went...

You're the worst type of ignorant, the type full of certitudes

Go pound sand

Nice straw man argument.

You know halon extinguishers exist and you could fit one in your electric vehicle right?

In any event good luck scooping up enough sand with your bare hands to put the fire out.

Nice straw man argument.

Like you did me?

You know halon extinguishers exist and you could fit one in your electric vehicle right?

Yes. And they wouldn't be capable of putting out an electrical fire where the source is the fuel is the heat.

In any event good luck scooping up enough sand with your bare hands to put the fire out.

What are dump trucks.

Is the car salvageable after the fire is out?

Then let the fucker burn.

Maybe do an impact analysis and see how it balances out... 15,000 gallons of fresh water + the health impact of standing near the fire × however many firefighters are exposed + getting rid of the carcass... vs toxic chemicals released in the air + getting rid of the carcass.

Hold the auto maker responsible for the cost (of whichever method is more acceptable) every time there's another fire, and I'm pretty sure electric cars in this form will go away.

Maybe make the streets electrified, or overhead electrified cables, or

Wait... why are gas engines so bad again?
