Sometimes it's necessary to preemptively remove the source of the roots before they can damage the foundation. It's absolutely necessary to remove them to prevent further damage when they've already proven to be the cause of the damage.

Well the house is going to be sold and demolished anyway. New developers are going to put something else there.

I'm all for repairing the damage and keeping the building. It'll just take time and the help of a community to right and shore it up.

I've already bought a house in a gated community.

I just hope the the Homeowners Association doesn't kick me out.
