If you think you're getting a fully filled cartridge with that new printer, I have bad news for you. There used to be several brands of printers that have good cartridge prices. Cannon, brother, and OKI to name a few. I haven't looked in years because my color OKI is still running strong after 15+ years.

Brother Monochrome hL 2070n. Wireless. Prints a billion pages. Can refill the toner myself. I’ve owned 2 of these over the past 15 years or so.

If I ever need to print something, it’s usually a photo. For that, I often just look up the current Walgreens or CVS freebie online.

Ink printers are such a scam I'm amazed that no one has tried to do it right.

Kodak put out a series of inkjet printers about 15 years ago that promised they would have low cost ink replacements so you could keep your printer longer. I bought one of these printers and my first two ink cartridge purchases were about half the cost of HP or Epson ink cartridges, but then the price jumped up to just about a dollar cheaper than their competitors. The cartridges also seemed to be of smaller capacity which meant more frequent replacement. The whole thing was a big scam that they promoted as a revolution in the cost of inkjet printer ownership. No one has an incentive to make ink cheaper because the market is completely jewed. Laser printers are better in terms of life and operating costs, but they don't fit as many printing applications as inkjet printers do.

Laser jet

Ink jet printers are a scam.

This might be a good point if the printer industry was large. It's not. It's fairly niche as far as electronics go. All of the pollution created during the cradle to grave process for printers wouldn't add up to a tenth of the pollution from the data center(s) of a major porn site.

If it mattered to users, they'd have all switched to laser.

If climate change were a serious concern, if pollution, if E-waste were a serious concern to the hypocrites who tout them, they would endorse a ban on designed obsolescence, mandate warranty periods for given price ranged appliances and electronics, they would run campaigns begging people not to replace their phones constantly and they would mandate replaceable batteries for phones, and other electronics and ban fast fashion and the excess use of synthetic fabrics.

We had a toaster design 60 years ago that has proven it wont quit for 60 years but today we sell toasters that break down in a year or 3.
