"Because everyone insists on office"
HUR DURR USE DAH OPEN OFFICE
The only thing compatble between MS Office and Open Office are the file formats. Create and carefully format a document on MS Office and save it, then open it with Open, it will open it. Now save it again and go back to MS Office and see what you get.
Ill give you a quick hint.
All of that careful formatting you just did is gone and it will display whatever shit it feels like.

Whoa slow down there, Sparky. If you actually took the time to actually read my comment you'd understand that I was referring to MS Office. Open Office and etc are well known to have formatting issues with MS Office documents. Why do you think companies insist on MS Office? It's not because they love paying licensing fees. Though they do seem happy enough to do it, but that's a whole other discussion.
Anyhow, I didn't disagree with you that there's a reason why Windows dominates. But I don't agree that Linux is not a viable alternative, at least for home use. If you have MS Office formatted docs, or are playing on-line games, or have a VR rig then you're pretty much locked into the MS world. But if not then Linux today can be a pretty damned great alternative. Boot Pop_OS from a memory stick and tell me you're not impressed.
Full disclosure I can still dual boot to Windows any time I need to, but so far have done it a handful of times. Some were to run a Resident Evil that I couldn't get running using Wine, but then an update was issued and now it runs fine. Otherwise it was to access my Garmin GPS using their Windows only program. But recently I've been trying out open source maps and, so far at least, they are just fine. So there's another thing that I WON'T have to run Windows for. Praise Jebus!
