It just works. Today I tried yet another installation of Linux and as with every other time there are problems that just seem to be unsolvable. It simply just does not work out of the box. I try it every couple years and it never works. Todays issue was that it came up and ran fine, except it does not see my keyboard. So I can't type anything. I won't be giving up too quickly, I'll go hit the forums and try to find a solution but I don't have high hopes. It is just way to technical for average users, you have to be well above average tech savvy to use linux. My dream to escape microsoft someday is still a dream it seems. By the way, before you jump on me and call me a stupid moron faggot computer illiterate, in a past life I held MCSE and CNE certifications.

Mint is what I am working with. I thought I found a potential fix to my problem by editing a particular line in the grub.cfg file but when I open it that line does not exist. Back to searching.

Sometimes you need to add the line to a config.

How old is your motherboard and keyboard? I'ld try updating the BIOS to the latest version and trying different keyboards if that doesn't work. It's a problem recognizing USB in the BIOS that Linux isn't cleaning up for you like Windows does.

My computer is only about a year old, but I did update the drivers and it worked. I now have it working and plan on exploring it further.

Glad it's working."New" computers often ship with ancient BIOS btw.

every solution in linux works like this -

Download X and install. No wait, X is dependant on Y, so download and install Y. No wait, Y is dependant on A B and C, so go download and install them. Oh hangon no way, A relies on X, B relies on Z and C requires sacrificing a chicken to moloch.

Fuck that shit.

It helps if you build your own PC and plan the hardware around Linux. A lot.

lol, I got the issue fixed before I got to the chicken sacrifice thankfully. But yes, it's been a real experience. I have been excoriated over this thread though. Apparently I am a real dumb ass.

How are you editing the grub file without a working keyboard?

Does the keyboard work in an alt TTY? (CTRL + SHIFT + F3)

I booted back into windows and opened it with a text editor. I got it working finally though. Bios settings.
