Linux Mint works. You are a faggot.
It just works.
lol barely, even after several decades of painful experience and frustration.
Linux is by far a more stable/enjoyable experience, once you’re done learning how to use it.
Therein lies the problem. You have to go to tech school to learn to use it. I found a potential fix to my problem by editing a line in the grub.cfg file. All except the part that my grub.cfg file does not contain the specified line at all. lol
Your keyboard not working must be related to a legacy usb switch in your computer’s bios.
I'll poke around in there, very carefully.
Agreed, even a decade into running Linux at home and being a sysadmin for dozens of RHEL nodes I still get surprised at how complicated a simple request can be.
simple request
Such as?
Here' my most recent one:
Users from different domains on the same active directory want to login to a Linux console, but don't want to prefix the username with a domain.
The Pam module we're using allows us to set a default domain for users to avoid the prefix, but not provide an array of domains to check for the account.
It's more about having to get in the weeds and figure it out, perhaps contribute back to get the feature you need. Most lack the skill or knowledge of tools like git...
I've been running Linux on servers since the early 2000s. Desktops have been windows all the way however. At the workplace it's because everyone insists on MS Office, while at home it's mostly because of games. Every couple of years I'd try gaming on Linux and was always underwhelmed. And none of the DEs were an improvement over Windows, not by a long shot. You'd spend more time trying to make shit work and dealing with snooty assholes on forums than actually being productive.
But I hated Windows HATED it. Yes it worked, but at what cost? Well your soul, for one thing. Windows 7 had the hint of a good OS in it but also was the beginning of the WE OWN YOU reality that Windows eventually became. I spent a lot of time turning off the phone home services and configuring the Desktop so that I didn't feel like the brain dead half wit that MS clearly feels its users are. But that didn't prevent one too many times that the OS decided to update itself at an very inopportune time. Or made changes to fundamental aspects of the OS during one of the updates, the result of which was the further taking of control away from the user.
Anyhow last Christmas I installed Pop_OS for a lark. Within 5 days I'd switched and I have not looked back. Gaming on Linux is finally a reality and the DE is both robust and workable. Mother fucking windows is history FUCK YOU MICROSOFT!!!!!
Right on, I like a good success story, I too will keep working on it.
"Because everyone insists on office"
HUR DURR USE DAH OPEN OFFICE
The only thing compatble between MS Office and Open Office are the file formats. Create and carefully format a document on MS Office and save it, then open it with Open, it will open it. Now save it again and go back to MS Office and see what you get.
Ill give you a quick hint.
All of that careful formatting you just did is gone and it will display whatever shit it feels like.
libreoffice
faggot
Whoa slow down there, Sparky. If you actually took the time to actually read my comment you'd understand that I was referring to MS Office. Open Office and etc are well known to have formatting issues with MS Office documents. Why do you think companies insist on MS Office? It's not because they love paying licensing fees. Though they do seem happy enough to do it, but that's a whole other discussion.
Anyhow, I didn't disagree with you that there's a reason why Windows dominates. But I don't agree that Linux is not a viable alternative, at least for home use. If you have MS Office formatted docs, or are playing on-line games, or have a VR rig then you're pretty much locked into the MS world. But if not then Linux today can be a pretty damned great alternative. Boot Pop_OS from a memory stick and tell me you're not impressed.
Full disclosure I can still dual boot to Windows any time I need to, but so far have done it a handful of times. Some were to run a Resident Evil that I couldn't get running using Wine, but then an update was issued and now it runs fine. Otherwise it was to access my Garmin GPS using their Windows only program. But recently I've been trying out open source maps and, so far at least, they are just fine. So there's another thing that I WON'T have to run Windows for. Praise Jebus!
ok ok, we get it, you are either paid to write this or are just not capable of doing your job, not a surprise
now, linux is not "acceppted" because money being pumped in news and info against it
money being pumped on having people screaming "AHHHHH, I clicked on the printer and IT DID NOT PRINT"
sheeple, do not want to hear screaming, so, ok ok ok ok, let's have windows
possibly, the rest of the word will realize that windows is a gigantic spyware and mandate linux everywhere
it could happen, if not for jew in power
BTW, did you notice how MANY jew runs the health "organizations" of china and russia ?
politics, not so much, but medicine ? basically they are in power there
What the fuck are you going on about? I've been trying to escape windows for years, for the exact reasons you point out. I am very good at my job (I'm a restoration contractor, not sure what that has to do with this conversation though). I did not misspell accepted, in fact I didn't even use that word in my post. What does healthcare, politics, or jews have to do with my post? Are you okay?
hey, if you do not understand, there is no need to ask if I am ok
just say that you do not understand
so, yeah, what being a "restoration contractor" has to do with linux usability ? nothing
what jew have to do with it ? you know that billgates is jew ? do you know the many ways linux has been killed commercially by microsoft ?
Only thing not working on mine is 4K playback, but it's my video card manufacturer's fault.. not Linux's fault. It seems the video card people intentionally locked out 4k playback capability unless running Winbloze.
My fren deleted Windows and installed Linux Mint on my laptop in just minutes, two years ago. Works fine.
From one CNE to another, Linux is going to be easier to "get" if you load it in server mode with no GUI and think of it as 3,51 - once I did that it all made sense.
I would also suggest poking around with VirtualBox and loading a distro there to play with. While VirtualBox will give you its own challenges, (sharing resources mainly) it's the easiest way to test a distro before committing.
Lastly, consider Ubuntu for ease of use, and TAILS for privacy.
Thank you for the tips!
Truth in this
Win is when you are way too gay for Lin.
Linux works fine. Try Mint.
PS: the NSA put a backdoor in systemd recently.
Truth about systemd
Mint is what I am working with. I thought I found a potential fix to my problem by editing a particular line in the grub.cfg file but when I open it that line does not exist. Back to searching.
Sometimes you need to add the line to a config.
How old is your motherboard and keyboard? I'ld try updating the BIOS to the latest version and trying different keyboards if that doesn't work. It's a problem recognizing USB in the BIOS that Linux isn't cleaning up for you like Windows does.
My computer is only about a year old, but I did update the drivers and it worked. I now have it working and plan on exploring it further.
every solution in linux works like this -
Download X and install. No wait, X is dependant on Y, so download and install Y. No wait, Y is dependant on A B and C, so go download and install them. Oh hangon no way, A relies on X, B relies on Z and C requires sacrificing a chicken to moloch.
Fuck that shit.
It helps if you build your own PC and plan the hardware around Linux. A lot.
lol, I got the issue fixed before I got to the chicken sacrifice thankfully. But yes, it's been a real experience. I have been excoriated over this thread though. Apparently I am a real dumb ass.
How are you editing the grub file without a working keyboard?
Does the keyboard work in an alt TTY? (CTRL + SHIFT + F3)
I booted back into windows and opened it with a text editor. I got it working finally though. Bios settings.
absolutely agree. it just works out of the box.
you need to swallow a 1000 page manual to get linux to do basic shit properly and dont know (nor do i care) about now but when i last bothered with it you almost had to recompile the entire fucking installation just to get the screen resolutions correct.
fuck that noise. there is nothing at all about linux that is better simpler or more stable.
microsoft sucks fucking ass but at least their shit works and you can always disable the shit you dont like.
Linux is like the PC OS version of Aldi "You can do your entire shop at aldi! Its cheaper" - First of all, you cant do your entire shop at aldi, second of all, the basic stuff they have tastes like fucking shit so basically, you can get your basic shit stuff from Linux, but then for anything specific or to your taste, youve still got to waste time then going to fucking Windows or Mac...... so the Linux trip is 100% fucking pointless in the first place.
You stupid moron faggot computer illiterate, just type
