I don't agree. Now, I could be wrong, but I just don't think the "average american" can't get off the floor without using their hands. It seemed simple enough to me when I read it so I gave it a shot and it was effortless. Like zero issue. Now, I admit, I am 53 and in pretty decent shape, but not anything extraordinary.

Just curious what kind of shape you think the average 53 year old American is in? If you look only at blue-collar/trade workers, a high percentage are probably in “pretty decent” shape. Of the rest, I’d bet 75%+ need some kind of assistance getting off the couch, let alone the floor. Younger demographics are probably only slightly better, percentage-wise, outside of careers that require some degree of fitness/hard work.
I think your qualifier “not anything extraordinary” shows how much you underestimate the lack of fitness among adults in this country. Just walk around an average grocery store (one not centered on quality food or located in an affluent area) and count how many people with a BMI under 25 you actually see. And then keep in mind how much less likely obese people are to be in a grocery store at all, with grocery delivery and fast food options becoming more and more normal for the lazy.
I like the optimism, but I don’t think it applies to real life here
You paint a bleak picture. All fair points though.
